1

Imaging & Assessment

You sit in a comfortable chair while ultrasound gel is applied to the cancer site. An imaging wand creates a detailed image of your tumor visible to you on screen. This image is used to measure the tumor and calculate your precise dose.

2

Targeted Treatment

The device arm is positioned over the treatment site and delivers a precise dose of low-energy X-ray radiation to the cancer without harming healthy tissue around it.

3

Repeat Over Several Weeks

You return a few times per week for short sessions. In 4–7 weeks, treatment is complete. Each visit from walk-in to walk-out takes about 15 minutes.

4

Follow-Up & Verification

At two-week and thirty-week follow-ups, ultrasound imaging confirms the cancer has been fully eliminated. Dr. Hinshaw monitors your progress every step of the way.

Treatment sessions are just ~15 minutes. You can drive yourself to appointments and continue normal daily activities no recovery downtime required.

Why We Chose GentleCure

The most advanced radiation-based skin cancer treatment available

There are several different radiation-based treatments available for skin cancer but safety, cure rates, and cosmetic outcomes vary significantly. Here’s why Hinshaw Dermatology chose GentleCure (Image-Guided SRT).

Advanced Ultrasound Imaging

GentleCure is the only skin cancer treatment with real-time imaging that lets us see and measure the cancer at every stage and adapt the dose precisely to what you need.

Superior Cure Rates

A 99.3% cure rate across 2,917 treated cancers. Multiple published studies confirm Image-Guided SRT is equal to or better than Mohs surgery as a first-line standard of care.

Exceptional Cosmetic Results

No surgical scarring. Your body replaces dead cancer cells with healthy tissue naturally. Studies show superior cosmetic outcomes compared to all other radiation-based treatments.

Proven Safety Record

In 7 years and over 100,000 patients treated, there have been zero reported cases of secondary skin cancers occurring as a result of GentleCure treatment.

Done In Our Office

GentleCure is the only skin cancer treatment performed entirely in a dermatology office — no hospital, no operating room, no anesthesia, no referral needed.

Adaptive Treatment Protocol

If you are considering radiation therapy for skin cancer, make sure you're receiving GentleCure with adaptive radiotherapy protocols — the safest, most effective technology available today.

Treatment Results

Seeing is believing

No two cases of skin cancer are the same, so results may vary. But the progression below is typical of results seen by patients who have received GentleCure (Image-Guided SRT). Example shown: basal cell carcinoma on the ear.

Before Treatment · Simulation

Cancer visible on skin surface & confirmed by ultrasound

Before treatment begins, the cancer is clearly visible on the skin. The ultrasound image precisely defines the full depth, width, and breadth of the cancer below the surface enabling an exact treatment plan.

Mid-Treatment · Week 2–3

Cancer visibly reducing in size

About halfway through treatment, you can see the cancer reducing on the skin's surface. The ultrasound image confirms that the tumor below the skin has also decreased progress you can see in real time at each visit.

After Treatment · 30-Week Follow-Up

No signs of cancer — inside or out

At the two-week follow-up, the area shows no visible cancer. At 30 weeks, ultrasound imaging confirms complete elimination with no evidence of cancer remaining. No scarring. No reconstruction needed.

What to expect during and after treatment

GentleCure is designed to treat skin cancer without the discomfort and cosmetic issues often associated with surgery. Here’s an honest look at potential side effects and what most patients experience.

No surgical scarring

When X-ray energy eliminates cancer cells, your body replaces them with healthy tissue over time. There is no cutting and no need for reconstructive surgery.

Possible skin changes at the treatment site

There is a small risk of skin atrophy (thinning of the skin) or pigment changes at the treatment site. These changes are localized to the treated area only.

Temporary skin inflammation

Some patients experience redness and swelling at the treatment site. Topical creams or ointments can be used during treatment to minimize these effects.

Side effects resolve after treatment

Skin-related side effects typically go away 2–6 weeks after treatment is complete. Most patients find the experience very manageable.

Possible localized hair loss

There is a risk of alopecia (hair loss) in the treated area only. Hair loss does not occur in any other area of the body.

Zero reported cases of secondary skin cancers

In the 7 years that patients have been receiving GentleCure (Image-Guided SRT), there have been no reported cases of secondary skin cancers occurring as a result of treatment. This remarkable safety record is one of the key reasons Hinshaw Dermatology is proud to offer this treatment.

Clinically Proven

A proven track record backed by science & clinical research

At Hinshaw Dermatology, our team reviewed the published research supporting Image-Guided SRT and the evidence is compelling. Here is what the data shows.

In 2021, chart reviews were conducted for 1,632 patients who had Image-Guided SRT to treat one or more early-stage basal or squamous cell skin cancers 2,917 skin cancers in total. The results showed a 99.3% cure rate, believed to be equal to or better than Mohs surgery.

In 2022 and 2023, additional studies confirmed the efficacy and safety of Image-Guided SRT to be superior to non-image-guided forms of radiation therapy confirming its use as a first-line treatment for basal and squamous cell skin cancers. This means doctors and patients should give equal consideration to Mohs surgery and surgery-free Image-Guided SRT as standards of care.
